Introducing: Vito Baumüller

Portrait of the artist Vito Baumüller in front of a black background.

Vito Baumüller is a visual artist who specializes in performance and sculpture. He is also an active actor and writer. His work includes producing various weapon-like performance objects. His models are melee weapons, ranging from spears and hand axes from the early Stone Age to spiked clubs and combat knives still in use today. These include perfidious suicide devices as well as lovingly designed tool replicas. They clearly demonstrate his approach to weapons as ordinary artistic research.

Every day, Baumüller plays with objects whose primary purpose is to wound if they were not works of art. He treats the spears and hammers like his own children, indulging them accordingly. His work can be understood as a manifestation of collective, infantile, and uncompromising daydreams that bare their teeth yet cherish peace.

At ato, the artist is represented by Francesca Romana Audretsch.

The Munich-based pop culture author creates a world between Prada bags, girlishness, high culture, and outdoor pool fries. Can we learn anything about left-wing politics from her?

Uli Aigner transforms the ancient craft of porcelain production into a space for experimentation, self-reflection and questioning the world. In her work, the vessel becomes a space for contemplation, with themes such as origin, socialisation, technology, use, networks of relationships and power structures hidden within each container. Our author, Henriette Hufgard, met with the artist.

It's a cliché that artists don't like to talk about their work. In our series, however, we ask them anyway. This time, it's Hannah Cooke's turn.

Exhibitions by artists from the ato network

ato's art network consists of a large number of artists and art agents. They are regularly invited to exhibitions or organise their own artistic interventions and public exhibition formats.

We present the current events from our network in our calendar. We cordially invite you to drop by!

As many people come from Karlsruhe or Berlin, a current exhibition can often be discovered in both cities. But of course also in other places.

Karlsruhe and Berlin have very different art scenes, which we are happy to inform you about. If you are interested, you can find more information here:
