Schachtnovelle

The Schacht Novelle is an abstract sound theater in public space.

A soirée by Benjamin Breitkopf in the ventilation shaft of a former civil defense bunker.

Minimalistically precise lighting design, live video projection and experimental sound design elevate the inconspicuous location to a stage. Musicians, dancers, performers and sound artists will perform on this unique stage.

World premiere September 27, 2022, Festplatz Karlsruhe at the Konzerthaus.

An absurd fairy tale unfolds in an associative sequence of scenes. It shows the discrepancy between the mediatized representation of world events and a possible participation in them. Prototypical characters find different answers to the existential question of how to deal with the demands of life mediated by the media. Chained together by external constraints, a collective of dancers reacts to the ubiquitous crisis situation by searching for cohesion. Marginalized characters must and may behave to the changing tides and emerge from the audience in the Schacht Novelle.
