Codumental

The videographic series “Codumental” was primarily produced in Bulgaria in 2019.

Brutalist monuments from the Soviet era line the landscape there and tell of a time and vision before the fall of the Iron Curtain.

As I have been projecting onto facades and barracks for a long time, for “Codumental” I chose a moving barcode as the light source and the decaying monuments threatened with demolition. Depending on the point of view and historical past, these concrete sculptures can symbolize a difficult past or a futuristic optimism. The standing moving images are difficult to grasp, a new form emerges, a new way of viewing.
