SUPERPOSITION

With the video performance SUPERPOSITION (Überlagerung), I make perception itself perceptible. I build a wall of 36 white cubes on stage between myself and the audience, behind which I disappear completely at the end. Two video cameras, one positioned in front of the stage, the other behind it, film the audience from the front and me from behind. Both recordings are superimposed live using the bluescreen process to create a single image. This image is projected onto the resulting white wall in such a way that the audience can see all of me, but the inserted video image of me can be seen from behind. It seems as if I am using the wall to build up my perspective on the audience. The people are not only watching me, but also themselves. Now I go to the back of the stage to get a Polaroid camera. I seem to be photographing the audience and show the photo after it has been developed. The video performance Superpostion, which follows on from works such as Dan Graham's Performer/Audience/Mirror or Jeff Wall's "Picture of a Woman"

confronts the audience with the gaze of the other in the projection of two superimposed camera shots. Stage fright and shyness are two emotions that I address in the performance.
