Malte van de Water
In his paintings, Malte van de Water explores the relationship between digital preliminary sketches and analogue execution. Computer-generated gestures, grids and lines act as templates that he then continues on the canvas using spray paint, brushwork and multiple layers of paint. His works blend technical precision with painterly materiality, challenging traditional notions of spontaneous gesture. Through their overlaps and hybrid forms, they generate pictorial spaces that translate digital image logic into a physical presence, offering a contemporary perspective on abstract painting.
