Maren Strack

Maren Strack moves between dance and sculpture. She works with her material using her body, often with her feet. She dances, kicks, tap-dances, holds, shifts, and throws things off balance. Ytong, latex, steel, feathers, hair, and tent fabric become counterparts that offer resistance and help shape the movement.

For her fusion of sculpture, performance, dance, film, and sound, Maren Strack will receive the State of Brandenburg Art Prize in 2026. Her works have been exhibited internationally at venues including the Städel Museum in Frankfurt, the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona, and the Fondation Cartier in Paris. She was a fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude and the Künstlerinnenhof Die Höge, and taught at the Berlin Weißensee Academy of Art and the Berlin University of the Arts.

In Strack’s art, the body becomes a tool and action becomes sculpture. Rhythm, strength, and exhaustion determine the course of her work. What begins as controlled movement can tip into instability. Humor and the comic meet a precise exploration of the body, materials, and everyday life.
