SOLO - IN JUNE: VON SILBERLAND

LOCATION

Kaiserstrasse 53, Karlsruhe

VISITING HOURS:

Saturdays 15-20h art and hand-selected patatoe

In the coming months, ato.black will be vacating its temporary office in Karlsruhe's Kaiserstraße to make room for art and artists.

Under the name SOLO, a series will be launched from June that will enable artists to be present in the cityscape and at the same time offer free space.

On specially designated days, the respective artist will open their temporary exhibition space and enable visitors to experience the artistic process in an intimate way through individual slots. In this way, visitors can accompany the construction of a room installation or exhibition piece by piece over several days or weeks and have the opportunity to enter into a dialog with the respective artists.

The name SOLO consciously plays with the established term “solo exhibition” in the art scene, but also refers to the new role of the viewer, who is (forced to) face the work and the artist alone in the exhibition space.

ato rethinks structures within the art field. As a collective, we show art and mediate sales and collaborations.

IN JUNE : FROM SILVERLAND

THE PRIVATE POTATOE COLLECTION (2020)

The idea came about while cooking during the Corona period.

I asked my grandma how to make a Spanish tortilla. Something I somehow miss. I'm slowly starting to miss my family.

I looked at different potatoes in the supermarket. I always found potatoes kind of humorous. The potato just has humor. Celery not so much.

When I was washing them, I thought about how the whole harvesting thing works. Somehow similar to the development of an idea.

Portraits of potatoes, the potato as a graphic element, the printer, the work that is printed and harvested. I could have done it with a carrot, but I wanted to eat Spanish tortilla at the time.
