Ada vs. Abramović
Tagesspiegel Nov. 2016:
“Did you never want to have children?”
Abramović:
“No. Never. I had three abortions because I was convinced it would be a disaster for my work. You only have so much energy in your body, and I would have had to share it. I think that's the reason why women are not as successful in the art world as men. There are plenty of talented women. Why do men take the important positions? Quite simply: love, family, children - a woman doesn't want to sacrifice any of that.”
The slow motion video shows me in a slow tracking shot breastfeeding my daughter Ada in an exhibition-like setting. We are sitting opposite a woman in a red dress who resembles the artist Marina Abramović in her performance “The Artist is Present” (MoMA 2010). Ada vs. Abramović is intended as a positive counter-statement to Abramović's condescending commentary.
