SOLO - IN JULY : Hannah Cooke
LOCATION
Kaiserstrasse 53, Karlsruhe
VISITING TIMES:
Every Wednesday in July, 1-5 p.m.
Vernissage: Saturday, July 25, 3-6 p.m.
Finissage: Saturday, July 25, 6-8 p.m.
ato is vacating its temporary office in Karlsruhe's Kaiserstraße to make room for art and artists.
Under the name SOLO, a series was launched in June that enables artists to be present in the cityscape and at the same time offers free open space.
On specially designated days, the respective artist opens their temporary exhibition space and enables visitors to experience the artistic process in an intimate way through individual slots. In this way, visitors can accompany the construction of a room installation or exhibition piece by piece over several days or weeks and have the opportunity to enter into a dialog with the respective artists.
The name SOLO consciously plays with the established term “solo exhibition” in the art scene, but also refers to the new role of the viewer, who is (forced to) face the work and the artist alone in the exhibition space.
ato rethinks structures within the art field. As a collective, we show art and mediate sales and collaborations.
IN JULY : HANNAH COOKE
WAVING WITH MY PHANTOM LIMB
In the four-part work “Aesthetic Mobile”, I deal with the virtual subculture of the Otherkin.
These are people who perceive themselves as non-human, but as beings such as elves, wolves or even disembodied constructs such as glitches and galaxies.
They have found a place to share their identities, particularly on the social media platform Tumblr and other forums.
In order to transfer the fragile constructs of these identities into an exhibition space, I chose the form of mobiles after extensive research.
Each mobile portrays an Otherkin.
In addition to the Galaxykin, Wolfkin and Fishkin, a fourth mobile, the Phoenixkin, will be created in July.
