VOLNA inside the Pyramid of Tomorrow

In Karlsruhe, a second, white pyramid has stood on the Marktplatz since August, right next to the stone one. Inside runs “The Power of Two” by the studio VOLNA: a walk-in panorama game in which every choice tips the landscape. It heats up, it freezes over, or it holds its balance. Eight choices make 256 possible paths, and only at the end do you see and hear which one you took.

VOLNA has worked with light, movement and real-time graphics since 2016, based in Karlsruhe since 2022. The walk-in 1:1 replica of the Karlsruhe pyramid comes from ato and the UNESCO City of Media Arts; it comes down on 13 September.

Artworks in September

Buy, lease, and admire art –

what is ato?

Art doesn’t have to be elitist. It can be real, accessible, and full of meaning.

ato is an innovative art gallery that showcases and sells contemporary works by both emerging and established artists. We focus on a personal approach: our art agents offer tailored advice to buyers and help break down barriers—making art accessible even to newcomers. We’re redefining the role of the gallery by representing artists in a holistic way—not just through their works, but through their ideas as well. Our agency harnesses this creativity to develop fresh impulses, for example, in collaboration with companies.

"The role of the gallery is in crisis. ato has transformed the idea of the gallery and thus saved idealism in the art system."

Art advice

A young woman explains an artwork to a young man during an exhibition.

Buying art is about emotion and connection, because it is not uncommon for a work of art to accompany you for a lifetime. Our art agents are familiar with both the background to art and market developments. They are mediators and curators. They have a keen eye for spaces, arrangements and proportions and will be happy to advise you personally and individually on your art purchase.
